About the Role

We are currently looking for a Tax Manager to join our Finance tam here at Head Office. As a Tax Manager you will manage the tax compliance and reporting for the Matalan group, working closely with internal stakeholders, external advisors and HMRC.

  • Prepare corporation tax computations for group companies
  • Prepare the Quarterly Instalment Payments for the group and ensure all payments made on time
  • Prepare quarterly VAT returns for review
  • Review the VAT product file monthly to ensure VAT liabilities correctly recorded
  • Support the preparation and submission of P11D forms to HMRC
  • Prepare the group PAYE Settlement Agreement
  • Prepare correspondence to HMRC to respond to any enquiries in respect of all taxes
  • Maintain and document procedures and controls for SAO compliance
  • Work closely with Tax Advisers to ensure seamless provision of tax support to the business
  • Assist the Head of Financial Control & Reporting, Financial Controller and broader finance team on tax related projects and ad hoc queries
  • Undertake periodic store visits to ensure strong understanding of the retail operation and its links to taxation

About You

  • ACA  / CTA qualified  with previous experience of working as In House Tax Manager
  • Strong technical skills, in particular in Corporate Tax
  • VAT experience required
  • Experience of dealing with HMRC and resolving queries
  • Good IT skills, including Excel and Word
  • Self motivated and proactive individual with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Strong time management and communication skills
  • Ability to influence at all levels
  • Good networker
  • Ability to build positive relationships with internal stakeholders, external advisors and HMRC
